Formula Rationale

Stomach Caps, a modification of Ping Wei San (Magnolia and Ginger Formula) a 900-year-old formula to improve stomach functions, relieves stomachache and abdominal bloating with signs of dampness and cold. Magnolia (hou po), tangerine (chen pi), and bai-zhu atractylodes (bai-zhu & cang-zhu) relieve dyspepsia by drying dampness, resolving phlegm, and moving Qi. Ginger (gan jiang) is a key herb for warming the middle burner, and balancing spleen and yang. Licorice (gan cao) tonifies Qi of spleen and harmonizes the formula. Bupleurum (chai hu) invigorates liver Qi and relieves the sinking of middle Qi. Hawthorn (shan zha) promotes digestion and alleviates food stagnation.
