Functions

Dispels phlegm and stops cough, eases the throat, aids in the discharge of pus, directs other herbs to the upper body. Expectorant, antitussive. Use for variety of productive coughs from both excess and deficient causes. Helps to discharge pus. Used for suppurative disorders such as lung abscess and throat abscess. Usually added to a targeting formula to enhance its throat easing or cough stopping effect.

Caution: Do not use if pregnant. Not suitable for use in the absence of heat or toxic heat symptoms.
